2020/2021 Scholarship Application
for Post-Secondary School Students (Closed)
1. Evaluation Criteria:
VKCSF awards scholarships to students who demonstrate the following:
(a) Excellence in academic or vocational training;
(b) Personal essay, academic reference, active involvement in the community and/or other notable extracurricular activities;
(c) Financial need (Optional*).
*If there is no financial need, only (a) and (b) will be considered
Anyone who will be enrolled as a full-time student from September 2020 to April 2021, and meets one of the following criteria may apply:
(a) A resident of Greater Vancouver (Canadian citizen or permanent resident) of Korean heritage, who will be attending an accredited post-secondary institution in the province of British Columbia.
(b) A resident of Greater Vancouver (Canadian citizen or permanent resident) of Korean heritage, who will be attending an accredited post-secondary institution outside of the province of British Columbia, if he or she graduated from a secondary school in the Greater Vancouver area and has a parent who resides in the Greater Vancouver area.
(c) An international student of Korean heritage, who will be attending an accredited post-secondary institution in the Greater Vancouver area.
(d) A non-Korean heritage student, who will be attending an accredited post-secondary institution in the province of British Columbia and is pursuing academic studies related to Korea.
3. Application Package:

To be submitted by you, send a single email to email@example.com (with your legal full name in the subject line) PRIOR to submitting this online application, with following attachments:
(b) Personal Essay;
(c) Copy(ies) of your Academic Transcript(s);
(d) Passport-Style Photo;
(e) Copy of your School Acceptance Letter (IF APPLICABLE);
(f) Financial Need Summary (IF APPLICABLE);
(g) Copies of Notice of Assessments (IF APPLICABLE);
To be sent directly to us:
(h) Sealed Official Academic Transcript(s) (BY POST MAIL);
(i) Academic Reference Letter (BY EMAIL DIRECTLY FROM YOUR REFEREE);
(j) This Online Application Form**
**Please note that this online application has total 4 pages. Once you submit the application, you will get a confirmation email. You can update and edit your online application until the application deadline, May 31, 2020.
4. Additional Required Documents:
All selected candidates will be individually notified by email before August 1, 2020. Upon notification, the following two items MUST be submitted by Aug 5, 2020:
(a) Your remarks on receiving the scholarship, to be published in the awards ceremony program booklet and on the VKCSF website (maximum 75 words); and
(b) Your thank you letter to the donor (175 – 250 words).
Please note, those candidates who do not submit the above items by Aug 5, 2020 will be deemed as having declined the scholarship. We will announce our final list of 2020 VKCSF Scholarship recipients on Aug 8, 2020.
5. Attendance Requirement:
Scholarships will only be awarded in person at the Scholarship Awards Ceremony. Therefore, every scholarship recipient (or family member) MUST attend the VKCSF Scholarship Awards Ceremony.
• Date: Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 5:30pm-9:30pm (recipient orientation at 4:30pm)
• Location: Hilton Vancouver Metrotown (6083 McKay Avenue, Burnaby)
6. ‘Meet and Greet’ Dinner:
One of the many advantages of receiving a VKCSF Scholarship is the opportunity to connect with your fellow recipients, previous scholarship recipients and VKCSF Board of Directors. This ‘Meet and Greet’ dinner event is planned on Thursday, August 20, 2020. Further details will be available near then. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended.
